Over at Jericho Settlers Farm, our friends have hosted RES students numerous times with a recent trip to pull carrots with the second grade. It's great to bring students out to the farm and meet the farmers who are providing food for our school lunches. JSF helps us to keep our salad bar stocked with local ingredients as they're available.
Our friends at VYCC help us to incorporate local foods into school lunches, taste tests, and after school programs. They've also hosted our annual Harvest Festival for 6 years in a row now! Thank you VYCC!
Recently, Deb and her family at Conant's Riverside Farm hosted our first graders as part of the Dairy in the Classroom program where students were able to learn about an operating dairy farm and meet the animals!
Shelburne Farms is known as one of the most beautiful places to visit in Vermont, but more than just a tourist attraction, the farm serves as a sustainable education center with hands on activities for students to learn about the farm. We've visited numerous times with a recent trip this fall where the first graders made pizzas with cheese processed on the farm, grain grown there, tomato sauce made from farm vegetables and toppings grown in the garden. What a great way to learn about where our food comes from.
